Global Song Index solves this question by documenting the chronological release records of songs and establishing verified attributions for original performers alongside global adaptations.
Catalogue Classification Methodology
Songs and artist performances in our database are categorized into three verified roles:
Original First Commercial Recording
The earliest documented studio or commercial live audio recording released by the performing artist or group that introduced the musical composition to the public.
Cover Cover Version & Adaptation
Any subsequent performance or recording of the song by another artist or ensemble. This includes acoustic covers, genre transformations (e.g. folk to rock), and international language adaptations.
Unconfirmed Research in Progress
Recordings currently undergoing historical verification where chronological priority or performance lineage is being cross-referenced against historical archives.
Geographical & Country Attribution
Unlike regional streaming platforms that index songs by publisher territory, Global Song Index indexes recordings by the origin nation or territory of the performing artist. A song recorded in 1965 by a British band and later covered by artists in France, Japan, and Brazil appears cross-indexed in each corresponding country catalogue.
Data Sources & Verification
Our catalogue synthesizes data from the community-driven MusicBrainz open knowledge base, national discographical libraries, and verified public historical records. Data is continuously updated, normalized, and deployed globally via Cloudflare D1 distributed edge storage.
